Textual Analysis: Double Page Spread of Music Magazine
This is an analysis of an RnB magazine double page spread. The layout of this page isn’t similar to the double page spread that I will create for my music magazine. The colour scheme that is used is White, Red and Black. I like this idea as this is the colour scheme that I used for the contents page of my contents magazine. It gives the page a bold look. The colours make the page eye catching to the target audience. The subject name is made large and bold; Jamelia. This instantly tells the reader about what and who the article on the page is about. The image fulfils the same purpose; it is big but not over powering the whole page. There is still some amount of text laid out on either side of it. The article has 4 columns. The lay out is an interview so it shows the questions and the answers by the subject.
The way the page is laid out in my opinion makes the reader notice the subject name first because it is big and bold. Then the reader would look at the subject name and then at the quote in Red. This is placed in the middle of the page also to attract the attention of the reader and as a little introduction to the interview between the journalist and the subject. Lastly, the article as this would take more time to read through and comprehend.
The effect of the background image of the headline makes the article appear modern and classy. Using Black and White effects also blends with the colour scheme that is used in the article. The use of black and white coloured effects to any image usually gives makes it look sophisticated and in some cases, old. The target audience for this article is mostly likely people of ages 16 to 30. This is because; they would have interest in the subject of this article and that genre of music in general. The colour also appeals to them as the colours are bright and bold so they catch the attention of young people.
The way the subject is posed in the larger picture gives a young, innocent and beautiful feeling to that column on the page. The image in the background of the subject name gives a cool and stylish look to that side of the article as the subject is posed in a laid back and simple way. This might be reflecting on the attitude and way of life of the superstar.
